Jane Castings - The Castings Family in England (NON FICTION)

In my main story about Jane Castings I wondered what happened to her family in England after she was transported in 1846.

Well on researching it seems that life deteriorated dramatically for her family.

Her daughter Sarah cannot be located on any census with her family after 1841 (1), when she was only four years old.  There is a Sarah Castings listed on the Death Records for 1847 which if her, means she died aged ten, one year after her mother left (2).

William the oldest boy was tried at Leicester on 26 June 1848 and convicted of
larceny. (3) He was sent to the Isle of Wight and later transported to Van Diemen's Land.

Jane's husband Henry Castings does not appear to be in the 1851 Census (4), but
two of their children – Emma (12yo) and Hiram (7yo) are listed as pauper
scholars in the Leicester Union Workhouse.

Emma Castings was seventeen years old when she gave birth to a daughter Mary Jane in 1857 (5) and twenty two in 1860 when she married Henry Bland an Elastic Web Weaver, in Leicester (6). They had four more daughters and two sons - Elizabeth (1863),  Sarah Ann (1866),  Clara (1868),  Henrietta(1869), Harry (1873) and Thomas (1876).  All of these children went from being scholars to gaining employment according to the England, Wales & Scotland Census taken between 1861 and 1901.

By 1861 their father Henry was also in the Leicester workhouse (7) and stayed
there until his death in 1892 (8).

Family myth says that the youngest Hiram Castings emigrated to USA possibly around the late 1800s and had a family over there.
ADDED: This is true. My research shows he settled over there and has many descendants.
